BPL and Barnsley Hospital Wellness Festival proves a great success

A TEAM from BPL has worked with Barnsley Hospital’s wellbeing team and partners to deliver a successful wellness event for hospital staff.

The day was organised to showcase a range of activities for employees to try out; giving them an idea of what’s on offer at BPL sites and encouraging them to try something new.

As many hospital staff work shifts, it can be difficult for them to get to a leisure centre, so we went to them, taking over the physiotherapy department and even turning the physio gym into a pickleball court.

We engaged with over 250 hospital staff on the day, who got the opportunity to enjoy some new activities, as well as learn more about taking care of their overall health and wellbeing and nutrition.

“It was a brilliant event.

At BPL, we’re all about bringing spaces to life, which is what we did here by turning the hospital physio department into a sports hall, and delivering physical activity in a fun and friendly environment.

It was also a great example of staff from different departments of BPL coming together to deliver Let’s Get Going – our new community-focused initiative to enhance the wellbeing of local residents – within the workplace.”

BPL’s Community Sports Development Officer Connor Pickles was also involved in delivering activity sessions and engaging with hospital staff at the event.

“Our mission at BPL is to make everyone feel good and we wanted to show people the range of activities we have on offer in our sites, as well as give them ideas of things they could do elsewhere, such as at work or at home.

We wanted to encourage everyone who came just to have a go, find something they enjoy and have some fun.

It was a really good day, which also gave us the opportunity, alongside our partners, to open up important conversations around healthy lifestyles and offer participants some useful wellbeing and nutrition advice.”
